VENBA

Away from the howling noises of traffic,

 Amidst nature

Exchanging smiles and symphonies,

Inventing a new kind of peace.

Location and clients vision

This vision of the client was inspired by a strong desire to reconnect with nature. Located in Kalapatti, surrounded by Farmlands, is the Venba residence. It aims to serve as a link between humans and nature, fostering a symbiotic relationship.

Concepts

The residence is an attempt to house both nature and humans, rather than a mere play with two sets of characteristically different volumes. The client desired to live in the middle of nature. They did not, however, want to confine nature. The plan was to create a space where birds and insects could come and go as they pleased.

A steel mesh structure with adequately spaced strings is superimposed and interlocked with the main building volumes. This provides enough space for biodiversity to enter and creepers to crawl. The main building volumes incorporate a sloped roofing system with flushed gutters, ensuring a clean appearance.

The entire structure is 8 feet above ground. This provides residents with a nice view of the surrounding farmlands as well as the sensation of floating. Skylights are provided at certain places to Incorporate stack effect and keep the interiors cool.

Zoning

There is a clear distinction between the private and informal spaces. This demarcation element is the main entrance point, on either side of which are private and informal spaces. While the volumes of the private spaces appear to be organized, the informal spaces are arranged skewedly and in a non-linear fashion. Narrow passageways of 6 feet wide connect various spaces, and these passageways open up to the landscape in some way. On the southern side, there is a swimming pool. The northern and southern sides are flanked by balconies, decks, and courtyards, which provide the house with a strong biophilic character.
